Circle Of Life
The plover bird was walking upon the crocodile 's back. Rata-tat-tata-tat-tata-rat-rat! Upon the soft leather back he scritch-scratch-sratched.
Scritchy-scratch, scritchy-scratch-scritchy-scratch-scratch! With clacky-claw feet he climbed about. Everywhere upon that croc, except for upon his snout.
Full from lunch the croc slept unaware. Awake or asleep, for the birds the croc did not care.
Meanwhile, a lizard slithered-swip-slipped along a branch. If he spotted lunch, he would take a chance. Thwip! Slurp! And a little crispy bug was zipped up and crick-crunch-crackled. But he was a greedy snacker and this morsel, was to small to say that lunch had been tackled.
Then shush-shush-shushed a centipede, 6 inches he was long. And quietly he buzz-bizz-bozzed a centipedei-sh song: “101 legs I have for crawling to and fro... I skitter-scat along the forest floor, underfoot, underleaf, wherever do I go. Delicious worms are my favorite treat. And whenever I detect one, I really move my feet.”
The lizard and the centipede met upon the old crocs back. Circling one another, each waiting for attack. First a lunge, then dash. Each strike in turn would flash! Matched true and even, both too proud to run away, The lizard and the bug would not fight another day.
For while they parlayed, pounced and stroked, each of them in turn were smote! Quick as light and discounting luck, DOWN the big bird struck! Picky! Pluck Pluck! Just like that, crack, crunch slurp and munch! The centipede was now lunch.
As the plover bird he flew away the croc, now waked from his nap, whipped 'round in a flash and swallowed down that lizard whole with a snip, snap, SNAPPED!
Life changes fast. What seems like a gift may really be, Serving to distract from the fact that there are always bigger, hungrier, fish in the sea. Or worse, You might be dozing On an old Croc's back!
