I don’t want to get up

This is rare. Most mornings I slip out of bed like a mist and just begin. But today…

Today I bent out of bed like a rusty folding table. The old back injury is giving me pain. Laying there a half hour ago, I was looking at a drawing I’d done in 2009 of Chuck Close, whose work I adore. The note next to the portrait said, ‘victim of a collapsed spinal artery’. And it occurred to me, ‘what the hell, get out of bed. There is life to be savored!’

Close was already a celebrated portraitist when he became disabled and arguably did his best works after losing fine motor coordination.

So now I’m sitting here, 100% artist absorbing 100% sunshine. Nothing between me and my Creator.

It is glorious. Much better that being wrapped in the melencholy of a 4am bedtime!

The breeze is GLORIOUS!

Temps are wonderful, the sun making me glow and burn when the wind stops.

Nakedness is a gift from God.

The bees are furiously flitting too and from their little blue box. Out finding whatever nectar is left in the dearth at the end of summer.

All around me, unseen, I know the ants are doing the same. Making their trail, twitching their little antennae and looking for drops of Jupiter to scurry home.

Birds, further out are cawing and cooing.

A squirrel barks at the interloper.

The wind in my trees… whispering poetry to the earth below. Love songs, or sighs of ‘thank you’ to their Maker for the gift of long lives and purposeful existence.

God! I love the symphony of life!!!!

It never stops!!

Oh, it grows still under the blanket of winter, but the awesome of being never ceases to respirate.

Even now, incomprehensibly far from here, a universe burns and boils with the juices of birth and creation… stars coming and stars going. Perfectly timed with the unfolding morning glory, sunflower, and the buttercup… blooming all the while.

I love life. Strange that I ever wish it different. But I suppose that is the human condition: to reign as king over this marvelous moment and yet wield a heart and mind that while basking in this wonder, also looks elsewhere.

Good morning glory!

Make the most of your day! Be amazing. Be at peace. Be all the things you need and deserve.

For like this morning, you are perfect.
