Imagine

John Lennon 1971

This song was written and released before I was born.

My father never thought much of the Beetles, so I didn't think much of the Beetles. Even now, I can enjoy their oeuvre, especially lyrically, but there's something about the sound in general that I find offputting.

Maybe that means I'll never be a real musician.

But, Imagine—it's one of those songs no one can deny is a tremendous track.

That line, 'Imagine no religion', I haven't done my Lennon research, so I don't know if it's based on research or just a feeling, but that's in the Bible. Revelation 17:16, 17 says 'Bablyon the Great' will be destroyed. Now, your mileage may vary, but my money is on BtG representing the collective false religions. In the maelstrom of destruction, the true religion will be a target.

So the idea of 'No Religion' is an old one. Way older than Mister Lennon and Oko (if you subscribe to her contribution).

Regardless, it's a great tune.

Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people Living for today... Aha-ah...

Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion, too Imagine all the people Living life in peace... You...

You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people Sharing all the world... You...

You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will live as one
