Superman

I. Can't. Wait.

I've mentioned before that growing up, Spiderman was my favorite superhero. I loved how grounded he was in reality. I could be Peter Parker. Clark Kent though... he was too otherworldly.

As I grew older that changed though. I love Kal-El as Superman. It started with Donner's 1978 Superman The Movie. There are numerous retrospectives on it on youtube. I recommend Rowan J. Coleman's. He's easy to listen to and does great research. If you are a sci-fi fan, you can't do better in my opinion with his reviews of Start Trek, Close Encounters, Galactica, Babylon 5, Stargate and... well just browse his channel.

Superman though. I love the character. I think John William's swelling theme plays a HUGE part of that. The music gives me goosebumps anytime I hear it.

The term has become shorthand for a savior, an otherworldly figure, a person who gives it all up for someone else.

A hero.

Personally, I see an analog for Jesus Christ: Alien, sent to save us, lived his life to better others. It's been disproved Siegel and Shuster intended this. But personally, I see it.

Henry Cavill was robbed in his run as Clark. I'll never forgive Snyder for dousing such a hopeful character in gasoline and dirt before setting the myth on fire.

I don't know if James Gunn's new superman will be any good. I don't care to be honest. I'm just excited to watch it.

I discussed it some last year with 'Are We Not Supermen?'

So, it's a few hours since I dropped this post, and I wanted to mention how buoyant this made me feel. Like, I've just been in a better mood and had a brighter disposition since watching it. :–)
